Monday Show and Tell

Maybe I should send my machine away more often. I seem to have completed lots of things this week. I admit none are very big project, but they are all hand stitched.

I made the cutest little Hedgehog pincushion see my "Wee Little Projects" page for more info on where to get the pattern.

Then I saw a tutorial on Melody's site, for hexie flowers turned into coasters. What a great idea ! so I made some of them. As well I made a small table topper to match.  I haven't quite finished the coasters still need felt on the back. For more info on these go to   http://thehouseonthesideofthehill.blogspot.com/

My Table Topper

Then the patterns came through for "The Great Global Christmas Swap" By Fionamarie. I just had to make this little Sweet Box By Bronwyn Hayes. I don't know if I will use it as my swap yet or not. I have a couple of ideas I would like to try before I decide.

And last but not least if you look closely at the top photo there is a purple block peaking out. My block swap for this month which I have been putting off till my machine can home. But I decided I needed to get it done and started hand piecing it last night.

So I feel I have had a very productive week and lots of fun making all these Wee Little Project.

Thursday UFO's

I finished this the other day before my sew machine decided it need a holiday. It left home a week ago and still hasn't come back. Whats a girl to do, lots of hand sewing that what. I have worn a hole in my middle finger. I just can't wear a thimble they drive me crazy.
Anyway back to may UFO. I bought this as a panel early this year, busily put borders on it. Then there it sat in the pile of thing to do. It finally broke free the other day and begged to be completed.
I used trapunto  to give the owl more definition. Then when I machine quilted it I use buttonhole stitch to make it look more like an applique than a panel.

The panel is called "Ollie Owl" by Adorn it. As you can see by the first photo I am going through a bit of an owl phase. The softy and cushion in the top photo were my own design based on a some fabric a bought early this year. Sorry can't remember what the fabric was.

Tuesday Treasurers

Here in SE Queensland it feels like summer has arrived over night. Last week we were still rugged up in trackies at night, curled up under a quilt (home made by me of course). Then Saturday the heat hit and out came the shorts and tees.
The great thing about the warm weather is the fruit trees are all starting to bloom and bear fruit. The treasure I would like to share today is my sweet baby fruits on my Peachcot tree (cross between a peach and an apricot).

When we first moved it to the this house about 4 years ago about 1/3 of the back yard was planted with golden cane palms. We gradually removed them most found lovely new homes. then set about plant an orchard. Now we are slowly being rewarded with yummy home grown fruit.

Monday Show and Tell

Today I would like to share with you a quilt I finished earlier this year. It was my entry in the 2011 Queensland Quilters Challenge. I am sharing it today for two reasons. 1. I forgot to take a photo of it before it went away.
Challenge quilts travel the countryside for about 16 months before they find their way home. I happened to be at a local quilt show the other day and there was my quilt, so I took a photo.

                                                                 " FANTASEA"

Reason 2. I have just picked up the fabric for the 2012 Challenge.

With the Queensland Quilters Challenge Quilt everyone starts with the same fabric and you have to produce a quilt using at lest 20% of that fabric. The quilt must also be a set size.
Now I just have to decide what to do with it !!!!

My sewing machine needed a holiday

My sewing machine has been very bad. It is not stitching properly. After trying all the tricks I know it still wouldn't behave. So then it went to the my local (quilt shop) not pub. After more fiddling we admitted defeat and it has been sent to the expert.
So much for my block for the Block Swap I was going to do this weekend. I had all the fabric picked out ready to go. Hopefully my machine will not be on holidays for to long!
It has given me an excuse to do some work on my hexies for the Vignette Hexagon Quilt. I decided to use fabric from my scrap stash to try use a bit up. lol :)  I am making it for my Grand daughter. I think she will like the cute little cat faces.

I was just visiting my Keeper Swap partner blog to see what what she has been up to. There I found a link to a new free online BOM. To find out more visit Jackie @ Canton Village Quilt Works http://cvquiltworks.blogspot.com/  It looks really great, so make sure you get signed up before you run out of time.

Tuesday Treasurers

Hi for Tuesday Treasurers this week I would like to share with you some photos of my 'Wee Little Birds'
I think they are bright, beautiful treasurers. There is nothing more peaceful then to sit in the garden with some hand stitching watch my little gems flit about their aviary.
These are all photos I have taken of my Wee Little Birds.

Cheers Tanya,
have a great week

... make me smile

Friends make me smile

Good Friends have to be one of the greatest joys in life.

My very good friend Jean travels one and a half hours every second Thursday so we can spend time together sewing, laughing, chatting & lunching.
For about 18 month now we have been spending our special Thursdays working on a cream and gold discovery quilt each. We are almost at the quilting stage and I would like to share some of our blocks.

What makes you smile ?
Cheers Tanya

Angry Birds

I have just made my 19yo son Yellow Angry Bird from Obessively Stitching Blogspot.
http://obsessivelystitching.blogspot.com/2011/03/angry-birds-plushies-all-tutorials.html

These fun little softeies are bassed on the very popular computer game "Angry Birds". I made this one for my son for helping me to set up my blogspot. It is so hard to find cute things to make for teenage boys, but this was a real hit.

Show and Tell

Welcome to my blog. I would love to share with you a beautiful quilt I have just finished. It is for our second grandchild due later this year.
It is the 'Nursery Friends' design from Michele Hills stunning 2nd book 'More William Morris Applique'. If you have not seen her work check it out at http://williammorrisandmichele.blogspot.com/. I meet Michele recently while she was in QLD, what a lovely lady! and she signed my book.
Back to the quilt. It is hand appliqued and quilted. I also added a red scalloped border. I just love the Peter Rabbit characters. It is the first quilt I have done by hand for a long time and have really enjoyed just sitting and sewing. I think it is very carming, I find hand sewing a great stress buster.
Bye for now. I would love to see your Show and Tell.
Cheers Tanya
